|
|
Just yesterday I was told that Rodney Ray, Faux Expo, purchased the domain name "decorativeartisans.com". So if you make the mistake of looking for IDAL at that site instead of the "decorativeartisans.org" representing IDAL correctly as a non-profit, you will get the Faux Expo site. Several years ago, IDAL had hoped to buy the .com domain; however, Rebecca Parsons who had been the Artistic Stenciler editor had purchased it. Evidently she either let it go by not renewing or sold it to Rodney. Needless to say, Faux Expo as a .com works too.
Although it sort of blind-sided us, it is what it is and I doubt that there will be anything for the Faux Expo to gain through any confusion this may cause, but as Past President of IDAL and a current Board member, I did want to convey that the IDAL Convention and Expo and the Faux Expo are not in any sort of collaboration.
Maybe IDAL should see if fauxexpo.org is available! LOL!!!! _________________ Do not argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and beat you with experience. |

I agree with Lynne...we do better with acronyms as they are a "visual" for the brain, and we are such visual people!
So sad that Faux Expo is pulling out all the stops. It will reflect on him, and the show; in the long run. _________________ He who works with his hands is a laborer. Not that I am on the board anymore.....I think the . needs to be .org since IDAL is a 501c3 non profit organization. I believe IDAL.org is already taken, thats why decorativeartisans.org was purchased.
Ah, nothing is ever easy. _________________ margaret

Yes, IDAL does have to remain a .org. Ironic that IDAL.org belongs to the Investment Development Agency of Lebanon which by its very nature would seem like it should be a .com or .gov rather than a non-profit. But then again, given the state of the world's economy, maybe .gov should be given up for .org entirely! Anyway, I doubt they're giving it up any time soon - unless there's a coup. You never know these days...
Still, none of us should have to worry about buying up every possible domain name so that some other business who thinks they are in competition can infringe on what you do...
Besides, almost everyone I know just types in www.sali.org and it flips right over to IDAL! LOL!!! I can't imagine anyone actually typing in either decorativeartisans.org - or .com _________________ Do not argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and beat you with experience. |

You could also buy IDAL.com and have it point to your .org site so that you are, in fact, using the .org but allowing us dummies to type in what we think it would be. I like Pat's comment! _________________ Your Friend in PA,

Not too cool if that is the case. The industry is too small to not get along and work together. Faux Expo should try and complement or work with IDAL or it doesn't make much sense for anyone. I am personally looking forward to IDAL's convention in Reno this year, should be a blast.

IDAL will be a blast....but it does take everyone working towards the same thing to accomplish these goals, and that is just never going to happen.
There are many groups, clubs, leagues out there.....and for some reason people get offended when others try to put other shows together.
We don't do this to take away from any one group....we do this to make it more versitile to everyone. There are many many great instructors out there...some feel very intimidated to cross over into other shows....and they shouldn't feel that way.
If we are all working toward the beauty of the art and the comradery then things will flow very evenly....but unfortunately this isn't happening. _________________ Bonnie,

looks like some other smarty pants bought IDAL.com probably after reading this thread.
there is no rule that says you have to use .org if you are a non-profit. likewise you don't have to use .com if you are a business. IMO you should use what makes you easiest to find.
artisphere online has a .com
IDAL.info is still available. _________________ .
