| How do you guys estimate things like door frames and other moldings when asked to woodgrain them? If a molding is about 6" wide do you round up to 1' when calculating your square footage? This stuff I'm trying to estimate isn't completely flat, they are those commercial metal door and window frames with a couple of bump outs and step backs. |

I do moldings by linear foot, but wider moldings are more expensive than thinner moldings... but not by much. Though for gilding, actual square footage does make a dent in the cost of materials....most of the labor is the same.
Ornate, vs. plain... for your instance, specific species vs general woody look is how you'd figure the costs. _________________ Worrying about "Commercial vs. Artistic" is a complete waste of time. |
