Well we started a large restaurant job the week before last and it has turned out to be something quite interesting. The owner requested that we build a huge 30ft long and 15ft high cave behind the bar. Very cool and I think it is going to start the place off in the best direction possible. Bruce swung by the studio that same week and came in to check the place out. Bruce had some incredible ideas and his enthusiasm was contagious as always. So we brought Bruce in and he designed the layout and has been getting everything ready to start it this week. Here are some pics to begin with and you can watch us as we go along this week. I hope you like.

It has really been an exciting project as you can see the pics below.

Wow, Pat:

That seems incredible. I have a couple of questions as I have thrown myself into the world of concrete overlay. Are you going to wrap the plywood with metal lath and what concrete product(s) are you using? I can't wait to see the progression.

Leslie "Barrie"

PS. Bruce, great job!

We have had a few changes and the framers had to finish a few extras...its funny how construction issues between contractors are the same as between client and contractor....So you might want to let your clients know ..YOU ARE NOT ALONE...LOL

This is such a great opportunity working with Pat and helping him realize his clients vision for this amazing project....It's going to be a great mix of talent fear...and caffeine...HO

From last you have all seen, we have added the lathe and create bumps underneath the top area creating a rough boulder like structure. We used 2 inch staples to secure it and then went back and used screws and washers for extra stability. After that Marco came down and helped Bruce start the side tables which will be turned into his famous wood beams. We chose to go with the product E Crete for a few reasons. One I think the support behind the product is second to none and number two I have liked all of their other products in the past. I hope you enjoy the pics so far. We will be veneering the cave itself on Wednesday. The wait is killing me!

*sigh*, I see sparks alright!!

That looks like too much fun.

I never heard of E-Crete, who makes it, where have I been?? Smart to go with a company that can be there when you need more product or technical help. (who am I talking to?, You know this already!!)

This job is the coolest I've ever seen!!!!

you know you can 'carve' forms also on styrofoam to place under the lath...and give the exact shape you want. glue the foam to the plywood and staple the lath the same way. the amount of concrete you're going to use does not have enough weight to pull that down.

the design is fantastic Ho!!

braviiisimooooo!!!!!
