We recently had our Open House in our new location, in the southwest of France. We were also very happy because our dear friend, Pierre Lefumat accepted to do a demonstration of marble that day.

Over a hundred persons came to our Open House, watching demonstrations by Pierre and myself. It was a successful event during which prospective students also had the chance to visit our school.

Other exciting news at Atelier Nadai is the upcoming summer program.
It is our great pleasure to announce 2 Master Classes, offering very high level training.

The first one will be a Master Class on Trompe-l'oeil.
Dates: June 29th to July 10th 2009 (2 weeks)
Teacher: Michel Nadaï

The second one will be a Master Class on Imitation Marble.
Dates: July 13 to July 24th, 2009 (2 weeks)
Teacher: Pierre Lefumat

It is a great honor and privilege for us to host this class, by Monsieur Pierre Lefumat, whom everyone knows is a great Master in his craft.

So, don't miss this great opportunity to come and take these 2 advanced classes in trompe-l'oeil and in painted marble!

More information will be posted in a couple of days on the forum and on our website.

A bientot!

Michel

Quand on parle du loup.....
Hi Michel and Kyoko, I just got home from a day with Pierre Lefumat as jury members for this winter session at the IPEDEC. Pierre and I judged the marbles and woodgraining (which is just a pleasure because Pierre talks sparingly about woods and marbles, but when he does it's all about lyricism, music, and story telling). This living ledgend still remains one of the most modest and kind people I know. He told me all about your new location, and that you had spent quite some time together, and how much you had helped him on his new endeavour (I'll let you break the news...) and all he could talk about was you, your work, your help, your space without once mentioning that he would be lending a hand. It's just not in the man's nature to boast about himself.
Michel, congratulations on your new space, and I can not recommend Pierre (and of course Michel) enough. Pierre's class will frustrate the bejeezus out of anyone because it looks so effortless to see him paint and the chasm between one's work and his work is gigantic, but anyone who is a serious and commited marbler will come out of it transformed.
Bruce, let me know if you are coming to France, and if you do and are coming via Paris, Christian and I will take you out for a drink or twelve.

this is a little offshoot
I was so enamoured of the pallette at the beginning of this thread that I got my dad to make one for me..

I drew a shape as close as I could get, in the size I wanted and sent him a pattern on paper.

Michel told me its solid pine, so dad found some, and had to cut the thickness on the bandsaw.. I don't even want to think of that!

They are a bit thicker than we discussed ( about 1/8th inch) at just under a quarter inch.

He then made another out of walnut and left it unstained or sealed. Its a tad too heavy, but lovely.
He used too red a stain on the pine, but I will fix that.

I will cherish these.

( the metal turps tin is from Pierre F's shop)

The palettes are way cool and now La Palette is on my places to see list... but I'm still trying to figure a way to get to this incredible class, I really believe that this is the greatest gift any decorative painter could ever receive. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity. Where there is a will there is a way. I have the will now, I have to find the way!

Michel,
I just want to let you know that i'm working on making it possible to attend mr. Lefumats'' class, The schools I work for have to cooperate. one school schedule ends late july (southern region). But Ferrie Ovink will certainly do your class. I spoke to him at the National Restoration Expo where he was doing a column to attract people in his empoyers booth, and as he told me he can't wait to to make the trip to the South. It's great to work with you,
Keep you updated,
Gert

I have met Michel and Kyoko in their new space just before going to Bergamo and I confirm, this new studio is simply perfect , the ideal place to paint.
Congratulations to Pierre and Michel for such an attractive educational offer.
I love the traditional feel of this whole thing , this is precious.
