I am working on this ceiling right now. This is only the medallion. This medallion is 8 feet wide. As you can see I have a long way to go. I cropped the photo of the whole ceiling. But there are 8 sections that come off this medallion. They are going to be crazy with pattern. It's going to be lots and lots of geometric patterns, Trompe L'oeil, and gold leaf mosaics. This medallion is not as decorated as I want it to be so far.

When I start to get my 8 sections on the sides going I will post up the progress. And when the chandellier (I custom designed a year ago) goes up it will really make this ceiling amazing.

The whole ceiling is 1200 sq feet. I just took my scaffolding down a few weeks ago to give myself a break. I am competing with my other gold mosaic ceiling. I think I have 2 or 3 more months on this ceiling (if I am lucky.)

OHHHHHHH WOWEEEEEEEEE

So Gorgeous!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You know, i think with your DVD on this coming out, we should all agree right now to call these types of ceilings "a Seabock ceiling" I predict these will become extremely popular and should be named after you.

Unreal Tania!! LOL just unreal

I concur 100% with Kathy, the kind of mosaic painting you do should have the name "Seabock ceiling" or the "Seabock effect" most definately!!

Oh wow - totally wow. I showed my best friend The House That Faux Built Book today - she went nuts over the dining area ceiling you did!

All I can say is - I tried mosaic..once. I thought that instead of a mural, it would be cool to have a mosaic running up a 9 foot wall in a historic Pompeiian pattern. Well, I put the VP on the sample board (good so far) and then started stenciling and free-handing the mosaic pattern...and decided after about 3 feet of it that I would be insane by the time I finished!! I didn't even get to the color. The sample board hangs in my studio as a reminder to myself that some things are beyond my capabilities.

Good on you for having the ability and patience to do this stunning ceiling.

Thanks guys. I love working on ceilings. I don't know if I like the painting or climbing the scaffolding more.

No skills or patience in painting mosaics. It's just called Zoning out.
I'll post the progress later.

Love the color combination. The outer area surrounding the tiles but inside the border, looks almost like golden clouds.

The style looks a little Moroccan, yet Persian. Is this something you have seen, or have you thrown elements together, or ?????

Really gorgeous, Tania. I enjoy tedium, too, but this would be to much for me, especially on the cieling! Wonderful work.

Tania: Zoning out?? Shocked ...what's that? Confused ...please!!!

The design is outstanding, I loooooove your work.

How do you do it? do you stand looking up?, do you lay on the scaffold? ...do you lift weights too? how do you keep your neck strong?
...is ibuprofen your secret friend??...

...too many questions??... Question

thank you Smile Elena

On this one I am on my knees. I use knee pads and a neck brace. It's still hard on my body but I zone out. I do take Advil usually before I start the first few days. Then my body gets use to of it and I am ok. It's always hard at the beginning. I am now learning I need to stretch before I begin my climb up.

Depends on the height of the ceiling once in a while I get to stand. I hope I can get the perfect ceiling someday that I can lay down. I have my own scaffolding so I am always at the same heights. And can only adjust so much that my scaffolding will take.

The last big ceiling I did with all the mosaics I had to go to a chiropractor after. That one was a bit too over whelming at times. I was wondering if I was really going to get it done at about mosaic number 10. I would look down the 35 foot hall of the ceiling and wonder when I was going to make it to the end. I kept thinking "I must be crazy and so is my client for letting me do this."

Ahhh it wasn't that bad in retrospect.

What's tedious about this ceiling is the dots in the pattern so far. More so then the mosaics. I'll post a close up.

I am almost tempted to do a mosaic in my entry for practice. I made an actual mosaic for my pool... irridecent glass on a table is a little easier to play with than paint on the ceiling.. heres a pic after it was installed, before the water.

Tania, you need to reproduce these. Don't you think Pat?

The dots look like beading or hobnail. Very, VERY cool.

Tania, that is simply amazing! That ceiling is just gorgeous. I can't believe you spend that much time kneeling - my knees would be pudding after just an hour or so.

I rented a ginormous scaffold when I did VP over my kitchen walls and ceiling and it was worth every penny! I could stand at a good height while working on the walls and lay flat on my back for the ceiling. It was a pain to push that thing back and forth in the room, but I got a great workout that way! haha

Yeah - I'm with Sherry - are you going to do a DVD of ceiling mosaics?

Shelly - your dolphins are great! How fun to swim in a pool with those on the bottom!
