Am taking a two day workshop with a wonderful fine artist. So different using a palette knife with oils. Live models in an oceanside park. So nice to be painting so differently than my usual realistic style. Am doing two more tomorrow. Will post.

Nice choice of colours, and a surprisingly sunlit effect without much contrast.

The second day paintings ended up being painted in the studio due to weather. I mixed oils on a mahogany colored wood palette in poor lighting then painted with a palette knife. Not so wonderful to look at. Colors are not good. Plus I wasn't really doing what the teacher was trying to teach so he would be horrified if he knew I respresenting these as what he is teaching.
However, painting in the impressionistic style was uniquely liberating.
I will share these because this is a forum of professionals and our failures are often more informative than our successes. Hard to believe these were painted by the same person.

That looks like so much fun. I have never painted like that but it looks like there could be a lot of satisfaction in dealing with the application and color in this way.

I tried to do something like this a couple of years ago with a group of "fine" artists friends of mine and I failed miserably. You are doing a wonderful job and I really like the feel you are achieving

Those are wonderful, Barbara! I have been wanting to try my hand at plein air painting for a while. You have really inspired me! I love the fresh and intuitive feel to these. Your talent really shines through Thanks for sharing these!
