I just ordered some SMS/C to try as a base coat for some foil finishes. I did a little searching and saw that Anita had some "issues," shall we say, with the same product a while back. I am using the pearl and the silver. Anita's reactions seemed to have happened with the gold, maybe...can't remember.

Anyone have any advice or tips on using this product? I'm not that experienced with it. I know I will have to discard what I mix up within what, 48 hours?

Update. I mixed a little super metallic set coat and some of the additive and sprayed a few boards and was underwhelmed, honestly. I just don't like that tin foil-ish, chrome spray paint-ish look that all, if not most, silver paints have.

I have some super metallic pearl and think I may mix the two...

I have never used the super metallic paint. Just the original metallic paint which is very transparent.

I posted a bad reaction about the designer metallics which are a two part system.

It seemed to be with the finishes that I had added the copper concentrate and the walls were new construction. Wherever the seams were it ended up tarnishing to a blackish hue.

Repainting the entire wall with a quality latex paint (2 coats) and redoing seemed to resolve the issue, but had no idea (and neither did the manufacturer) why it happened in the first place.
