| Hi ... I'm new to this forum. I just did my bathroom with Modern Masters VP. Primer, then 3 coats of plaster with a trowel, sanded and polished. I'm very happy with it - esp. the glass-like polish. The tech support at MM said I need to coat it because it's a bathroom. I was unwilling to pay to have their special topcoat shipped across the country to me and the local Benjamin Moore store said their faux painters use B.M. "Stays Clear". But I don't like the "plasicky" feeling it gave on my practice board. I guess wax is my other option but as we are getting ready to sell the house I'm concerned that a buyer would never be able to change colors if it's waxed. I'd like to just leave it as it is. I'd appreciate advice - does VP have to be coated in a bathroom and if so, what would you recommend using? |

Does it have to be? No. As long as you are ok with water marks on the VP.
I VP'd my powder room. It was fine for about a year. then all the lime started coming to the surface near the sink. So I have little lighter spots, little lighter trickles. Am I ok with this? Yes. Would some other people be? No.
A wax can be stripped with mineral spirits, or odorless turpenoid. I have done it. |

I am pretty sure that MM VP is acrylic. I don't use it myself, but generally, acrylic plasters shouldn't have the same water spot issues that real lime plasters have. You should be fine just the way you are. _________________ Ayn Riggs

I would wax it without another thought. And I'd do it before it is sold. _________________ Your Friend in PA,

Firenzecolor, cera wax/neutral is good as well. Doesn't leave a plastic looking sheen. Very durable and smells good too. Currently, applying it in a heavlily used bathroom over MM vp. Great product, also Bella wax satin by Kathy Carroll (Faux By Kathy).
