Hi Jeremy
Nice piece you have there.

I took a picture in Paris long time ago of a real Vert de mer.

There is a lot of different types of green marbles.
However I been told the real Vert de mer has it´s origin from turkey
and this is said to be a real Vert de mer
It's found in the window of a very small butcher shop in the outside of Paris

Hi Mats , that a lovely pic , i have some nice pics which where taken at a building i worked in last year for Historic Scotland , this mansion house has many fire places of real marble , white vein, Brecia violet , red languedoc , a beautiful grey one ,( but don't know what that ones called) , & a table top which is vert antique, there ,is also a big vase or basin type peice which is I'm sure vert de mer , it can be very confusing as like you say there are so many different types of green marble .

Later i will try and upload some of these pics i took

Here goes, these three I'm sure are vert de mer

Why does Brecia always look like head cheese to me?

breccia always looks like head cheese because they are made the same way. Large and small chunks of aggregate (rocks or pieces of fat and meat) all glued together with a slurry that has hardened (fossilized mud or aspic)

There's a hospital in Baltimore that has some serious Head Cheese Columns. Or something halfway between Head Cheese and Pimento Loaf.

I took those in Versailles castle. I'm 99% sure the green marble on border is Vert de mer...

Tips from my van der Kelen's notes:
Origin: Italy, France (Alps & Corsica)
Palette: White, Prussian blue, Chrome yellow, yellow ocher, black.
Background: black

Goes well with: Griotte d'Italie, Yellow Sienna, Sarrancolin, Grand Antique, Rouge Royal, Breche violette, Breche Caroline.
Use for: paneling, column, pedestal, frontage, chimney.

You must be right! I took that picture long time ago and don't recall exactly the look of the border from close view, but the white stones are typical (where was my head when I said it was Vert de mer? Embarassed ) .
Actually, I took the pic for the bigger main panel (which marble it it BTW? Any clue?).
