This year is the first year we will be going to Sali. I have been hanging with Sheri Hoegar this week and she has gotten me all psyched up for it. I have no idea what to expect but can't wait to see the energy and meet everyone. We are thinking of getting a booth for the forum and anybody on the forum who is interested are welcome to sit in it and represent what the forum really is made up of. Then we can play Rock, paper, scissors for cocktails.

I would be happy to hang out too. All you virgins, (like I am a veteran) I went last year! lolyou are going to be amazed, overwhelmed, awed and tired!. The convention is a highpoint in my year. I came home last year and couldn'y stop telling people that it was truly one of the greatest experiences of my LIFE. I roomed with a girl I met in amother forum. WE met at Sali, shared a room at the convention hotel. We did n't take the same classes, but we met everyday for lunch to "review" our classes. We went out almost every night, she was a party animal, I am not as big on that I was there to LERAN! We really enjoyed comparing sample boards, she got Gary Lords class, and I got Allison Woolleys, Helen Morris', and Rick Fischers so we really had alot to compare. The expo part was wonderfully done, lots of freebies, lots of info, lots of suff to BUY!! The play with paint was a loiitle crazy but I was like a sample board whore, I was going from table to table, I came home wth 27 sampleboards, noy all saleable, but all knowledgable. Bring an extra suitcase! Basic tools, small tupperware containeres, or baggies, for class leftoveres, alot of teachers give them to you, paper plates, for palettes, paper towels, blue tape. brushes, trowel if you will be plastering, camera, 2 nicer outfits, for opening night and the gala

Cleta, I'm with you! I'm also a virgin!! LOL
I'm so excited! I'll hold a virgin cocktail in my hand just to look cool, ya' know, but not party animal here... I'm always the designated driver (...migraines...) But I'll be taking classes and socializing... and slapping my face to take the silly smile off, I'm so happy to be part of this forum and meeting all of you!!!
I have a question, I love the idea Tania had to rent an apartment, and I want to go with her if that's the case,...but should I reserve a room just in case she doesn't find a suitable apartment?? I don't want to miss anything!
no, I have 2 questions, what night is the closing gala?
no, 3: the opening gala? is that in the morning?

How dressed up? Sparkles and sequins or dress pants?

| Kathy take Allisons class!! Her work is fabulous, if anything make me jealous and go to her newly renovated studio!! Patti, there were lots of sparkles and seq ins (not worn by me) there were lots of casual dresses, a few dress pants, and a rare few non dresser uppers. Two gals I was with were very dressy, silver sandals, and cocktail dresses, I wore a skirt and top to the expo opening but was glad I went home because I did not bring anything dressy enough for the closing gala, think day wedding or cocktail dress.

Shelley! Yes, yes, we DO want to see your Top Shelf Dance!!! I'm a cheap drunk (have zero tolerance) and dance horribly...the chicken dance is the height of my capabilities.
this sounds like soooooo much fun - I can't wait!
Arlene - what a gorgeous panel! I wanted so badly to meet Allison when we were in Italy last May...but too many people in our group wanting to do different things, so I am hoping to meet her this September.

That picture with Heather and Lori is too cute!!!
Thanks for the tips, I'll get Allison's class, and 2 nice dresses for the galas (one pair of shoes...unless I go shopping there...hmmmm....no, I better stick to the classes!)
To all Sali experts (and Tania), please: Should I make a hotel reservation, just in case the apartment doesn't come true? ...I'm panicking here

I am excited about the whole thing. I can't wait to finally meet everybody and Sheri has been telling me all about the events and gala. I guess there are too dressy events, one on wed and one on sat. It should be great. I am serious though about whoever wants to pop in our booth for a minute and represent the forum as they walk by they are welcome to. It will be nice to just hang.

Pat, I'll be hangin around anyway, I can certainly give you a hand.
I made my reservation today for the hotel. I decided it would better for me to stay there and not have to drive my monster around getting to and fro. Rooms are cheap (San Francisco is not a cheap hotel place) $129.00 for a double. So far I dont have a roomie (and probably wont get one) but 2 people can share for 64.50 a night each... not too shabby!!
I say we at least all try to get on the same floor if not on the same wing, if were staying at the hotel that is
I am still very interested in taking the scag class if Tania is still thinking about teaching it?
